The ideal candidate will have led a similar or larger Fleet Maintenance operation and have the ability to grow into roles of increased responsibility. The South-Side fleet consists of approximately 65 trucks (dump, tractor, and ready mix trucks) and various types of heavy diesel equipment. Responsibilities will include supervision of and working with 4 mechanics, performing road calls and emergency repairs (Hands-On), maintenance administration, evaluation of equipment, training, and development of personnel, including drivers, performance inspections, and continuous improvement.Pay and benefits:The Shop Maintenance Manager position’s salary will be based on experience but will be from 80k to 115k annually and will include a company fleet vehicle. Vulcan Materials provides industry-leading benefits, which include: 401K plan with generous company contributions, BCBS medical, prescription plan, Dental, Vision, company paid life insurance, ten paid holidays, vacation, short & long-term disability, as well as several optional accident & illness coverages.Who You’ll Manage:The Shop Maintenance Manager will directly supervise 4 Mobile Mechanics and 1 Shop Administrator.Who You’ll Work With:The Shop Maintenance Manager will work directly with and receive support from several department heads and support groups to lead the business unit to achieve industry-leading safety performance and operational excellence. The position will work closely with the Production Managers, Dispatch Manager, Plant Managers, Safety Group, HR Group, Support Services & Engineering, and Procurement.Who You’ll Work For:The Shop Maintenance Manager will work directly for the Area General Manager responsible for ready-mix operations support in South-Side, Virginia.What You’ll Do:Supervise Work Shop and work with Mechanics.Supervise Work Shop and work with Mechanics (Hands-On) on all types of mobile equipment repairs and maintenance. Supervise shop mechanics and keep all shop equipment and facilities in excellent condition. Schedule, supervise, and perform as necessary all repairs on equipment that is brought into the shop for repairs.Maintain Paperwork. Maintain all employee paperwork, safety equipment, and service truck repairs. Assist with service truck issues.Maintain DOT Maintenance Files. Ensure all DOT Equipment files are maintained and are compliant with DOT regulations. Maintain all Licensing, Permitting, and Regulatory Fleet requirements.Track Repairs and Maintenance. This is a hands-on role tracking all repairs and maintenance through various systems and work orders.Troubleshoot. Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues by working collaboratively with third-party vendors.Monitor Oil Samples. Monitor equipment oil samples and vision link alerts. Schedule corrective action to prevent premature failures of equipment components.Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times, following OSHA and Vulcan standards.Evaluate Equipment. Advise managers in the proper selection of equipment and its operation for a given application. Participate in reviewing and evaluating new and used equipment at the time of purchase. Work with vendors on specifications for new mobile equipment for the area.Collaborate. Work closely with operations management on capital replacements and maintaining costs within budgets.Develop Training. Assist in the development of training programs for operators and mechanics on Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).Monitor Maintenance. Identify problem areas with equipment and work closely with plant management to schedule preventive maintenance, major component replacement, repairs, or rebuilds.Perform Inspections. Perform routine inspections of mobile equipment to ensure safe and properly maintained equipment. Analyze, communicate, develop, and execute action plans for vehicle maintenance.Maintain Relationships. Establish and maintain good relations with OEMs and other mobile equipment vendors and service providers. Develop and manage these contacts to provide the best and most cost-efficient services for the division. Gather and disseminate information and updates from OEMs.Champion Continuous Improvement. Promote “Best Practices and Standards” for mobile equipment.Perform Employee Engagements. Perform employee engagements and work plan reviews. Encourage a safe and efficient work environment.Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.QualificationsSkills You’ll Need:Experience. Must have at least ten years of progressively responsible management experience in directing mobile equipment preventative maintenance programs.Maintenance Knowledge. Must be familiar with reliability-centered maintenance principles, engine and drive train diagnostics, electrical systems including CAN communication systems, hydraulic system installation and diagnostics.Interpersonal Skills. Must have verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with employees and vendors.Time Management Skills.
