- Directly assists physicians with in-office medical procedures including cystoscopies, vasectomies, catheter placements, ultrasounds, biopsies, and other procedures. Requires knowledge and skill with sterile field, medical devices and surgical equipment.
- Prepare exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies including set-up of sterile trays.
- Responsible for the appropriate sterilization of reusable medical equipment in accordance to policy, procedure and device requirements.
- Administer medications, injections, and treatments as directed by physicians and/or nurse practitioner according to scope of approved clinical practices.
- Instruct patient in collection of samples, testing, procedures, and follow up care.
- Educates patient and/or family regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care.
- Communicate with referring offices or hospital units regarding transition of care.
- Obtain necessary pre-certification and/or referrals for certain medications and treatments.
- Assist providers with care and follow up of all patients in office as assigned.
- Schedule appointments, procedures, and test as directed by providers
- Screen and respond to triage calls and ensure follow-up as necessary.
- Clean and stock rooms as scheduled; assists with inventory supply management
- Assist with management of the clinical support staff including developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for staff and patients
- Documents all patient care assessments, evaluations, activities and/or observations according to policies and procedures.
- Observes and practices DCH policy concerning patient confidentiality including on-line information and the Medical Record on file.
- Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
- Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
- Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
- Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
- Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
- Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Prior experience in Urology care or surgical nursing preferred
- Requirements for all: Ability to operate basic office equipment. Excellent verbal communication skills to interact with patients, coworkers and other visitors. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
