Together, we’re making an impact around the world.If you’re looking for a career that moves, join our team of professionals who are passionate about the future of transportation.Your OpportunityUnder the direction of the Right of Way Project Manager, you will possess a good working knowledge of all right of way disciplines; title, permitting, acquisition and documentation.The Right of Way Technician opportunity reports to the VA office with working locations available in Virginia and North Carolina.Your Key Responsibilities – Right of Way TechnicianPerforms right of way title research activities Including the research of records and closingsFamiliarity of courthouse records, including but not limited to: Deeds, Leases, Easements, Mortgages, Deeds of Trust, Wills, Probate Records, Court Cases, Delinquent Taxes and any other instrument that may affect surface ownershipAbility and possessing skills necessary to conduct title searches of up to 100 yearsFamiliarity with online databases and public records to aide in landowner identification and title research (ie. County GIS and other associated databases)Performs thorough quality control (QA/QC) of own work and that of othersPrepares reports for weekly project status meetings and reports on the status of right of way acquisitionPerforms other right of way duties of a similar nature and level as assignedExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExceptional organizational, planning, prioritization skills and attention to detailAnalytical, problem-solver, and detail-orientedMust be comfortable using a variety of different technologies.Excellent customer service skillsYour Capabilities and CredentialsThorough understanding of right of way lawsAbility to digitally compile title abstracts illustrating a complete chain of title along with pertinent encumbrances that may directly impact proposed surface useAbility to solve problems using sound professional judgement, creativity and innovationAbility to multi-task on various tasks and projectsTakes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the teamAbility to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought and effectively communicate concepts and ideas to othersAbility to read and interpret complex engineering drawingsAbility to read and interpret land survey documents and right of way mapsFamiliarity with the provisions of the VDOT Right of Way Manual and North Carolina Right of Way Manual as it applies to the acquisition of propertyFamiliarity with project management cycleProficiency in MS Office SuiteAnalyzing titles and title reports as well as prepare documents related to right of way acquisition policies in each StateIdentifying key information about parcels and communicating such effectively to stake holdersAbility to read and understand real estate terminologyAbility to ascertain types of title evidence required to obtain descriptions of properties and names involvedSome travel, less than 50%English language proficientValid Driver’s LicenseBilingual (Spanish) a plusEducation and ExperienceTechnical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 1 year of experience within ROW/Title ResearchVA or NC Real Estate License a plusBeing a Notary Public is a plusTypical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
