Job Description:Join University of Chicago Medicine, as a Clinical Pharmacist in the Inpatient Pharmacy. In this role as a Clinical Pharmacist- Internal Medicine and Roosevelt Pharmacy School Shared Faculty, you will assume responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy. The position is a shared position between the University of Chicago Medicine and Roosevelt University College of Science, Health and Pharmacy. Through various assignments within the department, they provide support of centralized and decentralized medication-use systems as well as deliver optimal medication therapy to patients with a broad range of disease states. Given the shared role between UCM and Roosevelt University, the Pharmacist should be present at the College around 30% of days and present at the Hospital around 70% of days throughout the year. The weekly schedule will vary based on the Pharmacist's teaching responsibilities. The weekly schedule should be coordinated in advance in accordance with the hospital's scheduling policies to ensure adequate Internal Medicine service coverage. Maintains a standard of performance that is in compliance with Joint Commission, ASHP practice standards/guidelines, federal/state licensing acts, and UCH and Pharmaceutical Services Policies and Procedures
Interprets, evaluates, and accurately dispenses all drug orders in the patient’s best interest as assessed by appropriateness of drug selection, contraindications, dose, side effects, drug interactions, food interactions, duration of therapy, route of administration, and cost
Provides therapeutic monitoring of drug therapy including the monitoring of serum concentrations (i.e. vancomycin, aminoglycosides, phenytoin, digoxin, warfarin, etc.) and the adjustment of drug dosages based on a patient’s age, size, renal/hepatic function, severity of illness, and other patient specific characteristics
Identifies, resolves and prevents potential and actual drug-related problems. Recommends rational therapeutic alternatives as needed to prevent future problems
Participates in drug preparation and provides drug information in collaboration with the institution’s Cardiac Arrest Team during cardiac resuscitation
Accurately checks medication orders that have been entered into the pharmacy computer system by the pharmacy technician: insuring that patient allergies, drug duplication, and drug interactions do not exist which contraindicate therapy and that the drug dose is correct. Enter orders directly into computer system if necessary
Participates in the orientation, education, and mentoring of new staff (i.e. pharmacists, nurses, pharmacy technicians, etc.) as needed
Performs other duties as requested by senior management
Roosevelt University College of Science, Health and Pharmacy Essential Job Functions
Academic duties of the Pharmacist shall be to serve as the course coordinator for one required course every academic year, provide at least 20-30 hours of lecture to pharmacy students every year, and to assist with teaching electives and facilitating rotations and exams as time allows.
The Pharmacist will precept up to two Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students per six-week rotation, up to five rotations/year.
Service duties will include serving on at least one college committee, with additional participation in faculty governance as time allows.
The Pharmacist will also be responsible for producing scholarly work consistent with the requirements set forth in the College's Appointment and Promotion Standards for the Pharmacy Program.
University of Chicago Medicine Required Qualifications
Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
Doctor of Pharmacy or other advanced degree highly preferred
Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois (complete licensure process within 60 days of employment).
Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency required or 3 plus years of hospital staffing experience.
Roosevelt University College of Science, Health and Pharmacy Required Qualifications
For Appointment at Assistant Professor rank the candidate (1) must have a Pharm.D. degree, (2) must have a minimum of either three years of teaching and/or clinical experience or one year of post-graduate training, and (3) should also show evidence of a high level of competence in a specialty and demonstrate progress toward excellence in service, in addition to instruction, research, or practice (collectively, “Assistant NTT Rank requirements”).
Possess superior clinical skills, demonstrate effective communication skills, a commitment to interprofessional practice and education, a record of excellence in didactic and experiential teaching, and interest in engaging in College and University faculty

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Degree, Masters of Science, MBA, or Doctor of Pharmacy highly preferred.
Completion of an ASHP accredited residency PGY-2 IM residency is preferred.
Extensive clinical experience and development may be considered in lieu of formal training
