Position DescriptionThe Network Infrastructure Engineer II implements, maintains, and optimizes the (24x7) on-premises data center, cloud-based and hybrid cloud network infrastructures (hardware, software, network services, security) to ensure the highest uptime availability, reliability, and cost efficiency across the College's IT infrastructure environment.This position researches technology to create proof of concepts and introduces new technologies to the infrastructure and operations team. With minimal supervision this position implements, maintains, and makes decisions that improve processes within the data center and cloud network environments.Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.*Primary support of on-premise (LAN/WAN) and cloud-based network infrastructures (SDWAN, SDLAN), wireless technology, network firewall/VPN, internal/external DNS services, infrastructure security, data, and telephony circuits*Proposes and validates solutions for data center and cloud networking infrastructures; supports CIS controls and security measures; supports campus, classroom, and cloud connectivity to provide for the business needs of the remote workforce and technical solutions for faculty and student success*Researches, reviews, and implements plans and projects to maintain a proper balance of services provided by the on-premises data center and those from cloud-based infrastructures to optimize the College's network and operational needs*Responds to emergency situations during and after normal business hours to assist in resolving complex, cross-functional issues over multiple technologies in server, storage, operating systems, virtualization, consolidation, middleware, applications, operations, content switching, caching and/or content delivery networks, and security*Resolves break/fix issues, operational and security outages involving on-premise (LAN/WAN), cloud-based network infrastructures (SDWAN, SDLAN) and hyperconverged environments, wireless and telephony technologies, and campus security systems*Provides mentoring and consulting to other technical and non-technical areas of the Information & Technology Services department and other areas of the College*Documents policies and procedures to ensure data center operations and network services run efficiently and effectively in 24x7 environments*Works with third-party providers to maintain security and integrity of the College's on premise and cloud network environmentsProvides technical support to ensure the highest possible service delivery quality levels are achieved across all areas of responsibility, leading the department toward operational excellenceQualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesSolid understanding of data center, cloud, and hybrid cloud networking infrastructures and operations including the architecture, platforms, and common services that run across production data centers and public cloud platformsSolid technical skills and ability to collaborate with and work effectively with college leaders, faculty, and IT engineering, operations, and support staffSolid analytical, project management, and team-oriented interpersonal skills that apply good analytic processes to help bring an issue to resolutionProven knowledge of current trends and developments in information technology with the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documentation and procedures, business periodicals, professional journals, and government regulationsAbility to provide technical guidance in the development of technical and user documentationSkilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and managing multiple simultaneous projects utilizing effective time and project management techniquesExcellent verbal and written communications skills to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, staff, and employeesCommitment to delivering superior customer service in a team-oriented environmentAbility to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 40 pounds of equipmentMinimum RequirementsAssociate degree with three years experience in an IT related discipline orAn equivalent combination of education and experiencePreferencesBachelor's degree in an IT related fieldFour years of direct experience with networkingIT related certifications - CCNP, CCIE, AWS Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Data Center, Networking, Project Management, Security, or Open Source#IDHPAs an equal employment opportunity employer, Wake Tech values our workforce.
