GENERAL DESCRIPTIONSuccessful candidate will be responsible for leadership, administration and coaching of a college men's and women's tennis teams. Responsibilities will include recruiting quality student athletes, organizing and planning practices, implementing game strategies, scouting, coaching, scheduling, budgeting and planning team travel in compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Strong recruiting, communication and organizational skills are all required and candidates must demonstrate a willingness to follow all policies in place by the university and athletic department. The position will have a second duty as assigned by the Director of athletics. Illinois Tech is a member of the NCAA Division III and the Northern Athletic Conference. The tennis team primarily trains and plays at the XS Tennis Center located 10 minutes from campus. The Head Coach will report to the Director of Athletics.

COMMUNICATIONSThe ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must project a positive professional image and be enthusiastically engaged in creating a positive experience for student-athletes. Experience recruiting highly academically qualified student athletes is a must.
CUSTOMER SERVICEThe head coach will need an acute sense of customer service along with a positive attitude. Must possess good human relations skills and serve as a positive role model for student athletes
Special Schedule RequirementsNights, early mornings, and weekends may be required for practices, games, event coverage and recruiting. Travel is required as well as the ability to work during “non-business” hours. Transportation to Tennis Training Facility in personal vehicle may be required.

Experience coaching women's college lacrosse strongly preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with experience at the NCAA Division III level. Preferred requirements master's degree, 3-5 years of experience as a women's lacrosse coach.
Knowledge & SkillsThe successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently with little direction or no supervision. Evening and weekend work is required.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITYSupervises a minimum of one assistant coach and one student employee.
Physical Environment and RequirementsMay be required to stand for long periods and must be able to lift at least 25lbs. No exposure to unpleasant conditions. The position requires long periods of standing approximately 50% of the time as well as administration of office duties 50% of the time.Certifications and LicensesList any certifications or licenses that are either required or helpful in performing the job, designating whether required or preferred.No additional licenses or certifications are required.Key ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilityAdhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the University, Department of Athletics, as well as the rules and regulations of the university, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and NCAA. Recruit and retain highly qualified student athletes. Ensure compliance with NCAAguidelines for contacting and entertaining prospects. Work closely with admissions department to ensure selection of appropriate student athletes.

Key ResponsibilityProvide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student athletes, including counseling team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, when appropriate. Initiate and coordinate the selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment, to include uniforms, athletic equipment and supplies. Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations. Develop and implement strategies for motivating student athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team.

Key ResponsibilityArrange team travel, lodging and transportation arrangements within specified budget. Provide a complete travel itinerary to director of athletics prior to each overnight trip. Ensure that the team dresses appropriately when traveling. Assist with approved fund raising activities as requested. All team fundraising efforts must be approved by theDirector of athletics after fund raising proposal form has been completed. Assist in attempts to increase interest in the sport and attendance at competitions.

Key ResponsibilityWork with The Director of Athletics in developing and articulating to student athletes the departmental and team rules regarding appearance, practice, class attendance, punctuality, dress code and general standards of behavior. Enforce policies and procedures outlined in student athlete handbook, team rules and apply appropriate disciplinary action. Ensure the safety of student athletes and coaching staff through careful monitoring of the condition of athletic equipment and facilities utilized by the designated sport. Submit requests for repair, maintenance and improvement of facilities to the Director for facilities and operations.

Key ResponsibilityAssure that sport camps related to the sport program adhere to all rules and regulations related to scheduling and NCAA procedures. Review and clearly understand all sections of department employee handbook. All department employees are accountable for following this document.

Key ResponsibilityAdditional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. All head coaches are assigned a Secondary Duty within the Athletic Department. Coaches are expected to help with facility and event coverage.
Percentage Of Time 30Posting InformationWork HoursMonday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. thru 5:00 p.m.The schedule varies according to practice and contest times and dates. Early morning, late evening and weekend schedules are common in this position. The Head Athletic Trainer works with the athletic training staff to balance the schedules and keep long hours at a minimum.
