This community health center (FQHC) opened in 2011 and currently employs 25 providers across a variety of specialties - podiatry, obstetrics, infection disease, pediatrics - as well as internal and family medicine. They operate 4 clinics in the greater Lancaster area, with a robust support staff of clinical and administrative team members. They are currently seeking a new Chief Medical Officer.POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The new Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will report to the Chief Executive Officer, functioning in a role that’s 70% clinical patient care and oversight and 30% administrative duties.The clinical responsibilities of the role are, but are not limited to:- provide direct patient care for at least 2.5 hours per day (Monday to Friday)
- serve as a clinical role model for the provider team
- practice evidence-based, culturally competent care
- participate as a backup for after-hours on-call, ensuring continuity of care
- promote and demonstrate patient-centered care
- promote and demonstrate effective care coordination across service linesThe administrative responsibilities of the role are, but are not limited to:- directly supervise licensed medical providers
- conduct structured performance reviews for medical providers
- monitor provider performance dashboards
- identify and support providers needing performance improvement, mentorship, etc.
- develop and execute recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies
- monitor note closure rates and enforce timely completion of documentation
- lead monthly provider meetings
- participate in executive leadership team and Board of Directors meetings
- serve as the clinical “face” of the organization in both internal and external settings
- lead design, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement and assurance
- drive performance on clinical quality metrics (HEDIS, UDS, etc.)
- provide clinical oversight and training on coding
- support annual and ad hoc chart audits, peer reviews, etc.
- ensure full clinical compliance with all guidelines and regularly bodies
- collaborate with the Compliance & Risk Officer to resolve issues, incidents, etc.Working in a non-profit environment, the CMO must be a mission-driven physician leader providing strategic oversight and clinical leadership across medical operations. The CMO ensures that clinical care delivery aligns with regulatory standards, organizational goals, and the organization’s mission of serving underserved and vulnerable populations.REQUIREMENTS:
- California medical license (or eligibility)
- DEA
- Board Certified, Primary Care Specialty (Family / Internal / Pediatrics / Etc.)
- 5+ years clinical practice experience
- 3+ years medical leadership experience
