As the Plant Health & Safety Manager you will be responsible for leading, developing, and directing the health and safety programs of the facility. This role oversees conformity with Federal, State, and Local regulations and Company policies related to health and safety and serves as a leader to drive health and safety performance improvement.Essential Functions & Requirements:
- Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
- Completes audits of Plant departments to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements, governmental regulations and Corporate policies; recommends and monitors corrective actions
- Provides technical assistance to the Plant Manager and supervisors in controlling losses from injuries, liabilities, and property losses; develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with new standards and safety practices
- Builds a behavior-based safety culture through communications, employee involvement, and program ownership
- Manages near-miss and incident investigations to identify root and contributing causes and ensures the completion of necessary documentation associated with incident investigations and preventative/corrective actions and follow-ups
- Manages the facility industrial hygiene program; performs personnel and area monitoring to identify and correct controls to prevent exposures
- Develops and tracks health and safety related KPIs and metrics for the facility
- Represents the Company with OSHA and other regulatory officials regarding inspections and investigations
- Assists in the development of location budget for environmental, health and safety (EHS) needs and monitors budget for assigned areas to ensure adherence
- Performs and/or coordinates the health and safety training of all on-site personnel appropriately to their job duties; conducts facility orientation training for new hires, temporary workers, and contractors and maintains training records and documentation
- Evaluates and maintains adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the activities being performed and monitors PPE usage by employees, temporary workers, and contractors
- Assists in the effective response to emergency situations, including the timely notification of reportable incidents, response actions, and documentation efforts
- Maintains statistical safety information such as recordable and lost time injury rates, as well as other leading and lagging indicators; maintains site OSHA logs and coordinates with Human Resources on workers compensation and early return to work programs
- Supports the site's Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including employee participation, PHA/HAZOP, contractor management, MOC, PSSR, incident investigation and emergency response
- Assists leadership in the performance and completion of risk assessments and corrective actions, as well as PHA/HAZOP and audit needs
- Periodically reviews housekeeping, security, general facility appearance, facility records, and operations, making specific recommendations to facility leadership for improvement opportunities
- Coordinates facility compliance with Corporate medical surveillance, substance abuse, and injury case management programs
- Aggregates and reviews information on safety performance and KPI/metrics for the purpose of identifying any trends or patterns and implementation of corrective or preventative measures
- Serves as a technical resource and mentor for facility employees associated with health and safety programs/processes
- Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
- Bachelor's degree (required); degree within a science, engineering or safety field (preferred)
- ASP/CSP certification (preferred)
- 5+ years of experience working within health and safety programs (required)
- OSHA, OSHA PSM, and DOT experience (preferred)
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the Environmental Services industry
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role
