MHTN Architects is seeking a creative and detail-oriented entry-level Community Planner to support the development of impactful urban planning projects. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of planning efforts—from neighborhood revitalization and placemaking to downtown and small area plans—while building meaningful relationships with clients and communities.The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, urban ecology, architecture, landscape architecture, or a related field, and have a minimum of 1 year of planning experience. You’ll work closely with your fellow planning and landscape team members and the Principal over Urban Planning in a collaborative environment that values innovation, public engagement, and design excellence.What You’ll Do:
  • Develop planning studies, illustrations, and reports to support new and updated plans, programs, and regulations.
  • Assist in evaluating development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes and planning principles.
  • Support community engagement efforts, including field evaluations, engagement events, and feedback collection.
  • Prepare visually-engaging graphics and materials for meetings and events which you will attend.
  • Write narratives and assemble planning documents that communicate design intent and strategic goals.
  • Contribute to marketing proposals and other planning-related tasks.
What You Bring:
  • Strong visual & graphic communication skills including analysis and diagramming
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Foundational knowledge of city and regional planning, urban design, and consensus-building across diverse stakeholders.
  • Basic understanding of planning principles in areas such as land use, transportation, housing, historic preservation, or economic development.
  • Research and data collection skills, paired with creative problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively across multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Comfort facilitating both in-person and virtual public participation activities.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD/Revit, SketchUp, and Bluebeam, preferred.
  • Active participation in professional organizations such as the American Planning Association, preferred.
