- Apply innovative thinking and detailed engineering to the development, integration, and evaluation of submarine payloads, autonomous vehicles, acoustic systems, communications systems, and autonomy for our fleet.
- Develop, implement, and test early prototype R&D maritime systems.
- Lead engineering evaluations to apply R&D technology to urgent or emerging problems.
- Lead white paper development, technology surveys, and drafting of technical findings and recommendations for our sponsors.
- Support sponsor engagement and concept development for new start efforts.
- Possess a B.S. in Ocean Engineering, System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or have equivalent work experience.
- Have 7+ years of relevant experience working on projects involving either industrial or military undersea operations, sensors, and systems.
- Are passionate about ocean engineering and tools for maritime system development, integration, evaluations, and technology analysis.
- Have experience in full lifecycle systems development including the development and fielding of maritime systems.
- Are skilled in concept design, implementation, and testing.
- Have demonstrated technical leadership, and the ability to mentor others.
- Possess strong organization and planning skills, with record of accomplishment in a team environment.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding written and oral communications skills.
- Have ability to take on leadership roles in an environment of contractors, government, and Navy personnel.
- Have a MS or PhD degree in a technical or scientific discipline such as Ocean Engineering, System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Have 10+ years of proven experience working on projects involving either industrial or military undersea operations, sensors, and systems.
- Have experience as a principal investigator for science and technology efforts.
- Have experience working in a highly technical research environment.
- Have experience with maritime systems design and integration.
- Have a current TS/SCI clearance.

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
