Position OverviewStep into a vital role with our Facilities Maintenance Division as a Facilities Maintenance Technician in HVAC, where your expertise will help power the daily operations of County-owned, leased, and partner facilities. Under limited direction, you'll take the lead on journey-level HVAC work, performing routine maintenance, system installations, and preventative care to ensure optimal comfort, safety, and efficiency.In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for the operation, maintenance, testing, and repair of HVAC systems, while also supporting electrical and plumbing systems as needed. Though your primary focus will be HVAC, you'll occasionally contribute to broader maintenance projects, making this a dynamic and engaging position with room to grow your skill set.   • Inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including checking thermostats, changing belts, bearings, motors, filters, and compressors, and cleaning coils to ensure efficient performance and indoor comfort
  • Monitor and adjust air humidity and ventilation to maintain proper air quality and system balance across County facilities
  • Removes and adds refrigerant to HVAC units as needed
  • Perform general plumbing work, such as installing water and sanitary fixtures and equipment, replacing faucet washers, stems, and seals, repairing toilets, and clearing clogged lines to keep essential systems running smoothly
  • Support basic electrical functions, including installing electrical conduits and fittings, routing and pulling wiring, and replacing faulty switches and components
  • Purchases materials and supplies by sourcing from qualified vendors, seeking price quotes, and following established purchasing policies to ensure cost-effective and timely project support
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools, parts, and equipment to support ongoing and emergency maintenance needs
  • Serves on call 24 hours for a period of seven days or more during times of inclement weather and emergencies
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or GED and one and one-half (1.5) years of experience and/or training in maintenance or building trades work; or an equivalent combination of education training, and experienceKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment related to HVAC maintenance trade
  • Knowledge of HVAC installation, maintenance, and problem indication
  • Knowledge of heat, ventilation and air conditioning system installation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards of building trades, grounds maintenance work, and associated safety precautions
  • Knowledge of County purchasing policies and procedures
  • Skills in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform HVAC tasks
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time as required by work assignments
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Ability to exercise tact and extend courtesy in contact with the public
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Conditions of EmploymentThis position requires Refrigerant Recovery certification within one (1) year of hireDriving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
