Key Responsibilities:
  • Department Leadership & Management: Lead and manage the geotechnical department, monitor productivity, ensure high-quality deliverables, and foster a positive, collaborative work culture.
  • Project Oversight: Coordinate with architects, civil and structural engineers, and other technical staff to ensure successful project execution. Oversee project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Strategic Planning & Budgeting: Develop long-term goals, business plans, and departmental budgets aligned with company objectives. Participate in strategic initiatives for business growth.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with the business development team to generate proposals, drive new client opportunities, and enhance the company's reputation.
  • Policy & Compliance: Implement departmental policies and procedures, ensuring QA/QC standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Financial Oversight: Approve departmental expenses, manage project budgets, analyze profitability, oversee billing, and identify additional revenue opportunities.
  • Team Development: Mentor junior engineers, provide guidance for professional growth, and maintain staff engagement and performance.
  • Client Management: Serve as the primary contact for clients, providing geotechnical guidance, reviewing contracts, and ensuring project satisfaction.
  • Special Projects: Lead initiatives to support departmental operations and organizational goals as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Michigan P.E. License (or ability to obtain)
  • Minimum of 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects and staff
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical software, Michigan codes, regulations, and site development standards
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in business development and client networking
  • Strong financial management expertise (budgeting, profitability analysis, collections)
  • Mentorship and team development experience
