Through our tight partnerships with Newell sales, category development, and key retailer teams, we strive to drive category growth and our brands’ share through deep shopper and retailer understanding, cultural/macro trends, and market dynamics.
- This Shopper Insights Manager role will be solely dedicated to the Walmart organization, contributing to the development and reporting of actionable insights about the shopper and retailer across all of the Newell brands. They will be seen as a trusted strategic partner to sales, sales planning, category development, and the broader Consumer & Shopper Insights teams. The Shopper Insights manager will participate in the creation of shopper strategy and will be responsible for its execution.
- Assists with a variety of research methods such as: shop-alongs, shopper journeys, concept testing, shopper decision trees, etc.
- Ability to fully manage DIY shopper surveys including questionnaire writing, survey programming, data analysis, and actionable insights-generation, primarily through the Luminate Customer Perceptions platform.
- Executes multi-category, shopper research that establishes Newell as a key strategic partner and thought leader to our customers.
- Independently manages relationship with external agencies and coordinates with internal stakeholders and consumer insights colleagues.
- Strong familiarity with Walmart’s Luminate platform including experience pulling data from all modules, extracting key insights to build a wholistic point of view, and providing actionable insights to assist team in sales stories.
- Strong knowledge and experience with key syndicated data sources (e.g., NPD, IRI, Numerator, etc.) to develop shopper-based insights.
- Proactively search, summarize, and democratize secondary research, trends and foresight to drive thought leadership internally and in key customer meetings.
- Prior experience analyzing retailer data and presenting key findings and recommendations.
- Ability to stay at the forefront of business strategic objectives, macroeconomic factors, and category market performance to provide wholistic business understanding throughout the Walmart Advanced Strategic Planning (ASP) process.
- Communicates actionable, unbiased recommendations on how to move the business forward by delivering insights that surprise and delight the consumer and win with the shopper.
- Creates shopper-based stories to aid Newell’s customer strategy, innovation sell-in, category leadership and reinvention.
- Ability to synthesize multiple sources of data into clear, concise, and compelling sales stories.
- Produces high-quality, visually appealing, customer-ready presentations.
- Comfort in presenting findings and recommendations to all levels (i.e., up to executive level) cross-functional partners.
- Ensures research projects are designed to ask the right research question and address important business issues.
- Matches research to business partner needs and gains stakeholder alignment on scope.
- Demonstrates effective project management including setting appropriate action standards, selecting and guiding suppliers, managing within budget and schedule constraints, and delivering actionable results.
- Investigates suppliers for potential future projects and initiates capability assessment.
- Four-year college degree, graduate degree preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in a shopper insights, preferably within consumer products/durables or retailer.
- Broad based experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods, with the ability to design and deploy research from the ground up. Experience programming and analyzing surveys within DIY survey platforms.
- Strong analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, etc.)
- Knowledge of Walmart’s Luminate platform, the various modules, and how to extract and integrate insights from each tool.
- Deep familiarity with syndicated data metrics and software (e.g., NPD, IRI, Nielsen, Numerator, etc.)
- Prior experience analyzing retailer data and presenting key findings and recommendations.
- Experience executing the strategic learning plan and managing a research budget accordingly.
- Experience tailoring communications to different audiences and communicating to stakeholders: sales leadership, cross-functional team members, agency and retail partners, etc.
- Demonstrates an understanding of differences among countries and cultures.
- Genuine respect for and curiosity about consumers, shoppers, and end users.
- Proven ability to analyze and identify insights from multiple data sources.
- Drive to continuously build advocacy for the Consumer & Shopper Insights function.
