External applicants are eligible for a sign on bonus of up to $10,000!!The Mercy Medical Center Pharmacy Department is seeking an engaged and talented Emergency Medicine Pharmacist to join our inpatient acute care team at our level III trauma center! This position will serve as the clinical pharmacy expert for our emergency medicine locations, providing sound clinical support for the interdisciplinary team and overseeing appropriate medication management through the compounding, dispensing, and monitoring of medications and other healthcare products in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Covered sites include a high-volume main emergency department at our Cedar Rapids hospital location as well as Mercy’s other emergency department locations in Hiawatha and Marion. This position offers a 7-on-7-off model, rotating weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.Job Duties
  • Reviews, evaluates and interprets medication orders for appropriateness.
  • Oversees safe and appropriate preparation, ordering, and distribution of medication orders in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses and other members of the healthcare team to ensure appropriate medication therapy.
  • Documents clinical interventions.
  • Detects, monitors, and documents adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
  • Provides clinical pharmacy services through consultation, drug information, teaching and/or committee work.
  • Participates in the drug therapy management of medical emergencies, as needed
  • Demonstrates evidence of continued professional development.
  • Participates in the training and education new employees, pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students.
  • Develops and implements quality improvements to ensure safe and cost-effective management of pharmaceuticals.
  • Assists with special projects pertaining to specific area of interest and/or expertise.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of and complies with pharmacy policy and standards of work and the laws, rules, and regulations that govern the distribution of medications.
  • Responsible for intra-departmental communication.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the following patient age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare team to ensure appropiate medication therapy.Provide clincial pharmacy services through interventions, consultation, drug information, teaching, culture review, and/or committee work.Professional ExperienceTwo years as a licensed pharmacist with enhanced clinical responsibilities preferred.Successful completion of an Accredited American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP) Residency Program preferred.EducationDoctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in pharmacy, required.Licensure, Certification, RegistrationMust have current Iowa Pharmacist License or be eligible for Iowa Board of Pharmacy pharmacist licensure. Employment is contingent upon being licensed by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy by start date.Two years as a licensed pharmacist with enhanced clinical responsibilties preferred.Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association preferred.Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) preferred.Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.Previous emergency medicine or critical care experience or successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-2 Residency Program in emergency medicine or critical care preferred.PGY-1 Residency Progam PreferredParticipate in continuing education programs as required.Physical Demand RequirementsMedium: Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently
