To advance the college's mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:Kirkwood Community College is seeking an individual responsible for the day-to-day management of the farm learning laboratory and its employees. The farm laboratory consists of approximately 500 acres of corn, soybean and pasture, 300 head beef feedlot and cow/calf herd as well as 50 sow farrow to finish operation. This position will be accountable for the planning, organizing and daily management of the agricultural enterprises working collaboratively with program faculty, staff, and administration. This position requires an individual to have production experience as well as strong farm management skills. The typical schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Responsible for equipment inventory including purchasing / leasing of new equipment.
  • Collaboration with faculty, administration and industry on overall mission of agricultural enterprise to meet curricular needs of programs served.
  • Address problems and troubleshoot.
  • Handle public relations with neighbors and city in regards to farm operations in and near city limits.
  • Secures necessary inputs for the operation.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of crop quality in field and in storage.
  • Supervise non-faculty staff.
  • Responsible for safety in regards to equipment, livestock and facility usage, condition, operation, and process.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Associates degree in agricultural related field.
  • 3 years agriculture production / management experience in crop and livestock production.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to earn Commercial Driver's License and Iowa Pesticide Applicators License within 1 year.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural related field.
