
Assistant Controller

- Oversees the financial close process, including journal entry approval, financial analysis, reconciliations, and the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements.
- Leads in the design and documentation of financial reporting automated workflows.
- Implements and maintains internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure data accuracy, as well as compliance with regulations.
- Supervises the Accounting, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and Payroll Teams.
- Prepares the 990, 990T, and other tax and compliance filings.
- Supports both internal and external audits, such as the annual financial statement audit, federal single audit, state single audit, and 403(b) retirement plan audit.
- Identifies areas for process improvement within the accounting department and implements solutions.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Controller and CFO.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience required. Master of Business Administration or master's degree focused in accounting preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience required; ideally in health care and/or non-profit industry; preferably in complex organization with multiple programs preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and analysis.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights.
- Experience with accounting software and other relevant financial tools.
- Proficiency in excel including pivot tables, and v look-ups.
- Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
- Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
