
Project Engineer I, Alternative Delivery

- Support the preparation of roadway plans, profiles, and 3D models using OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
- Assist senior staff in the design of highways, interchanges, and other transportation infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development of technical documents including design reports, cost estimates, and specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to help deliver high-quality, cost-effective designs.
- Participate in design-build and alternative delivery project tasks under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Attend project meetings, site visits, and coordination calls as needed.
- Stay current on VDOT and other DOT standards and help ensure compliance in all work products.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Four (4) + years of experience in transportation engineering.
- Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for roadway design and modeling.
- EIT certification required
- Interest in working on alternative delivery projects such as Design-Build or P3.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- PE license in Virginia or the ability to obtain within 6 months
- Experience supporting design-build or fast-paced project delivery environments.
- Familiarity with applicable state DOT processes.
- Exposure to working with contractors or in multi-firm project delivery teams.
