- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability and willingness to obtain the following certifications:
- NDT Visual Testing, Level II - NDT-VT;
- NDT Leak Testing, Level II, either NDT-LT or NDT-BT;
- Certification in Car Repair per QAI 405;
- Certification in Valve and Coil Technician per QAI 406, Level II.
- Knowledge of Association of American Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in English.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills

- Ability to work well with others in a positive manner
- Ability to properly document valve data, read work orders and GATX specification sheets
- Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions
- Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
- Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
- Must be able to push / pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
- Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate, hearing protection must be worn.
- Must be able to physically enter confined space (rail car manways as small as 18” in diameter) and work in enclosed environments
