2. Meets with newly diagnosed cancer patient to collaborate on treatment process. Educates the patient and family regarding the disease process, diagnostic procedure, tests, labs, and goals of the treatment regimens. Identifies realistic goals and potential outcomes for the patient. Communicates treatment plan with team members (Nurse Practitioner, Radiation Therapist, Physics, RN Navigator) and oversees treatment plan delivery.
3. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team (surgery, hematology-oncology, radiology, and pathology) on patient’s plan of care. Advocates for best practice, guidelines-driven patient care in multidisciplinary conference settings. Communicates patient’s plan of care to appropriate team members (i.e. Primary Care).
4. Collects relevant patient healthcare data, analyzes data in determining patient needs. Adheres to Bayhealth policy for completion of related documentation, selection of appropriate diagnosis code and accurate charge capture.
5. Participates in Bayhealth’s Clinical Research Program to recommend potential clinical research studies for enrollment on-site or refer to appropriate tertiary setting.
6. Communicates with Oncology Administration related to established workflows within the department to improve performance. Actively participates in the development of the Oncology Service Line strategic plan and promotes the strategic plan’s vision and goals to the community.
7. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
- Education: Doctor of Medicine; Must also have completed 1 year of recognized internal medicine residency program or equivalent (Family Medicine, General Surgery, Transitional Year) and 4 years of Radiation Oncology Residency.
- Credential(s): Physician MD; Physician - Controlled Substance Registration; DEA Diversion Control Division; Eligible to become an active member of Bayhealth Med Staff.; Or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) licensure. 45627
- Experience: Required: No experience necessary. Board eligible in radiation oncology.
