- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures for all transportation activities, including vehicle operations, loading and unloading procedures, and driver behavior.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of transportation facilities, equipment, and vehicles to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Provide safety training and education to transportation staff, emphasizing best practices and regulatory compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to transportation safety.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Compliance, and Human Resources, to ensure alignment and consistency in safety initiatives.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Monitor and analyze transportation metrics, such as accident rates, fuel consumption, and delivery times, to identify areas for improvement.
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external partners on transportation safety matters.
- Oversee fleet operations, from purchasing, maintenance, insurance and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience in safety and distribution.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a safety, transportation, or similar regulatory field.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other regulations.
- Effective leadership abilities with the capacity to deliver results through direct reports and colleagues alike.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer and software applications.
- Certification in transportation safety (e.g., Certified Transportation Safety Professional) is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to climb routinely.
