Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.HDR is looking for a Water Business Group Manager to lead our Mid-Atlantic Water Business Group. The role is driven to execute the annual business plan of the Mid-Atlantic Water Business Group. Your responsibility will be across the VA-DC-MD Area and the role will require periodic travel.As the Mid-Atlantic Water Business Group Manager, we’ll count on you to:
  • Take responsibility for operations including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
  • Function as a Client and Project Manager by taking responsibility for client service and project delivery in addition to management responsibilities.
  • Take administrative responsibility for the staff and technical service functions and lead and coordinate services with other business groups.
  • Be directly involved in business development planning, proposals, and interviews.
  • Be directly involved with municipal, private water and federal water clients in marketing, project production and related issues.
  • See that all work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through proactive project management system.
  • Implement, monitor, and support company policies.
  • Select, train, develop, manage, and coach project delivery personnel.
  • Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.
  • Collaborate with Water Business Group Market Sector Directors and the Regional Business Group Director to bring the WBG vision to fruition in the local marketplace.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Controlling - Responsible for the operational metrics for the Mid-Atlantic Water Business Group.
  • Staffing - Assist in prioritization of hires, identification and recruiting of candidates.
  • Client Management Leadership & Assistance - Collaborate with staff in the definition and engagement strategy for clients within the Area
  • Alignment of Resources - Coordinate the alignment of internal resources to the needs of our clients and the achievement of goals
  • Strategic Planning - Assist in development of annual strategic planning effort
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and communicate progress toward period and annual net fee bookings goals.
  • Work closely with client development leadership to observe trends, adjust projections and make required alterations to plan in an effort to achieve year over year goals and cost management targets.
  • Other Initiatives: The candidate will be encouraged to expand HDR branding in the Area and actively participate in professional associations and other functions to interact and establish/maintain client relationships.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Experience must include significant water / wastewater experience.
  • Must have proven marketing and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships with municipal water and wastewater utilities.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland, Virginia or DC or the ability to gain reciprocity.
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), Demonstrated team building capabilities and experience with leading diverse teams.
  • Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments effectively.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills with the ability to continue to grow the area’s water business team.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 15 years of industry experience strongly preferred, including management experience

The expected compensation range for this position in MD is $162,624 - $232,320 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
