Job Title: Cashier I (Seasonal)Class: Fiscal SupportDepartment: Community and Recreation ServicesReports To: Office Manager/Sports CoordinatorFLSA Status: Non-ExemptSafety Sensitive: NoSUMMARY:This is an entry-level position that supports the summer activities of Litchfield Park's Community and Recreation Services Department by assisting patrons and visitors at the Litchfield Park Recreation Center. The Cashier will collect fees, register program participants, answer questions, provide information and perform other related activities. The Cashier must provide excellent customer service to the public. This is a seasonal part-time position (up to 19 hours/week) that requires working week days, evenings, weekends and holidays.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledges, skills, and other characteristics. Performs the following:Dependable and prompt attendance.Greets all patrons and visitors entering and exiting the Recreation Center facility.Answers routine inquiries and provides information to the public about programming and services offered by the Community & Recreation Services Department.Refers complex or non-routine inquiries to the appropriate department or supervisor.Processes memberships and admission fees, program registrations, and other financial transactions for the Community & Recreation Services Department; prints and issues corresponding transaction receipts.Balances cash drawer and submits a daily cash balance report at the end of each shift and prior to leaving the Recreation Center facility.Completes various department forms and paperwork as needed; Assists customers with completion of forms as needed.Assists with taking inventory of Recreation Center supplies and equipment as needed.Performs basic cleaning of surfaces and equipment at the Recreation Center facility.Enforces and complies with Recreation Center facility rules and policies.Performs other duties as assigned or required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Must possess some cash handling and computer experience in a work environment
  • One (1) year of experience in a recreation, fitness or retail setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:
  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Basic Business Mathematics - Knowledge of the principals of arithmetic, mathematics and measurements used in common business and industry practices.
  • Customer Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Clerical Procedures - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Communications - Knowledge of communication and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes various ways to inform through oral, visual and written means.
Skill in:
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Communication - Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors,thegeneral public and others to exchange or convey information effectively and to receive work
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to:
  • Type 35 words per minute;

Licensing and Certifications:
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is helpful but not required

This position is a TEMPORARY summer position spanning approximately 14 weeks. You must be available to work for the entire summer recreation season beginning Memorial Day weekend and ending Labor Day weekend. You may be required to work any shift, any day of the week throughout the summer recreation season.
