Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer with expertise in on-premises Exchange, Microsoft 365 (M365), and Proofpoint to join our team. This role will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise email systems, ensuring security, reliability, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Exchange Server (on-prem and hybrid environments), Microsoft 365, and email security solutions such as Proofpoint.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a fully remote work setup, though candidates in EST time zone are preferred to align with business operations.Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain Microsoft Exchange Server (on-premises and hybrid) and Microsoft 365 email solutions.
  • Perform migrations between on-prem Exchange and Microsoft 365, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Manage and configure Proofpoint email security solutions, including policies, encryption, filtering, and threat protection.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot email flow, performance issues, and security threats across the enterprise.
  • Work with Active Directory (AD), Azure AD, and authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, MFA) to support email security and access management.
  • Implement email security best practices, including DMARC, DKIM, SPF, and transport rules.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for email-related incidents, collaborating with security teams to mitigate risks.
  • Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell for Exchange, Microsoft 365, and Proofpoint.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer specializing in Exchange Server and Microsoft 365.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Exchange (2013, 2016, 2019, and Exchange Online), including hybrid environments.
  • Strong experience with Proofpoint administration, including email filtering, DLP, and encryption.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and system management.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory (AD), Azure AD, and identity management.
  • Familiarity with email security protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and anti-phishing protections.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with email migrations (on-prem to cloud, tenant-to-tenant).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and advanced email security configurations.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts related to email traffic and security.
  • Microsoft and Proofpoint certifications (e.g., MS-102, MS-203, Proofpoint Certified Protection Professional) are a plus.
