Somerset is currently looking for an Operations Manager for Paper Machine #2 to develop and lead personnel and business processes systems to fully support paper production. This position offers the opportunity to work and grow in a vibrant, forward-thinking mill with a team of highly-skilled, dedicated employees. The person in this role is integral to the overall success of the mill and, as such, is a key member of the management team.Essential Function Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to lead productivity projects that lead to significant improvements
  • Ability to implement and use systems to manage with
  • Capable of filling in for machine managers.
Special Skills/Certifications, etc.:
  • Demonstrated good communications skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be promoted to a higher level of responsibility
  • Proven ability to lead hourly and salary employees and set high expectations
  • Skilled at improving organizational effectiveness and developing subordinates
  • Ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills with peers and other areas of a paper mill
  • Strong Safety Leadership
Entry Requirements:
  • BS in chemical, paper science or mechanical engineering or equivalent technical training and experience
  • 10 years+ experience in coated, wood-free paper making operation
  • Successful experience in managing 24-hour operation and multiple work crews
  • Strong communication skills
  • Extensive experience in coated, wood-free paper making operation (large, high speed coated machine experience preferred), including:
  • On machine coating
  • On machine calendering
  • Winder operation
