
Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Scientist - IRL

- Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses on clinical and research specimens.
- Serve as the technical expert for patient test result interpretation, specific tasks, work processes and procedures performed in a unit/shift.
- Communicate and disseminate general information and policy or procedure changes to unit/shift personnel.
- Plan, prioritize and direct work activities in the designated unit/shift to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
- Investigate and resolve problems concerning patient testing and procedures.
- Assist with interviewing and selecting new staff.
- Provide leadership for discipline-specific work groups.
- Participate in the design and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation.
- Monitor equipment performance, diagnose instrument problems/malfunctions and make repairs or initiate service requests.
- Conduct performance appraisals.
- Conduct, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of employee performance; work collaboratively with the IRL HR manager to address employee performance concerns.
- Monitor quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing; implement corrective actions for effective testing.

- Monitor employee compliance with approved regulatory and departmental guidelines.

- A Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited college/university is required.
- 1 – 3 years clinical laboratory experience within the past five (5) years is required.
- **Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or specialist certification in appropriate laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW) is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Must be proficient in computer software applications.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, policy updates, etc. is required.
- Experience with validation and implementation of new testing or instruments.
- Experience with laboratory inspection and accreditation activities.
- Experience working in an academic health center.
