  • Works under general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as a Recreation Assistant.
  • Instructs groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs, such as but not limited to: rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, challenge course, using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority. Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation and the local area.
  • Reports any problems to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as soon as possible in order to maintain a high quality service to guests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
RequirementsConditions of Employment
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, to include a National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI).
  • If water rafting is part of the duties, satisfactory completion of required Raft Guide Training must be completed within three weeks of appointment. Failure to successfully completed required training may result in separation.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required for this position.
  • The dual compensation guidelines DO NOT apply to this position. All GS and NAF employees whether fulltime or part time are eligible to apply for this position.

  • Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits.
HIGHLY PREFERRED are applicants who possess the minimum qualifications above AND ALL the following: * Pursuit of a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field.
  • In the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program.

PCS Costs:
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not paid, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials:
  • This is a pay-banded position.
  • Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
  • Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and bonuses:
  • Incentives will not be paid.
Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances and Differentials (on OCONUS Template, will read as "Foreign Overseas Allowances and Differentials):
  • Overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
