You will gain hands-on experience in financial record-keeping, data analysis, and reporting under the guidance of seasoned professionals. This role offers the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world tasks, helping to prepare you for a successful and well-rounded career in accounting.Position Overview: Are you a full-time student looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in the world of corporate accounting and finance? Big West Oil's summer internship program is a structured opportunity designed to provide you with the skills and experience needed for a successful career. Our program runs from May to August and offers the diversity and hands-on training necessary to become an effective, well-rounded accounting professional. As an intern, you will be mentored by a seasoned professional and integrated into our finance team to support the day-to-day accounting functions of a large-scale industrial operation.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Analyze financial data and perform variance analysis to help identify trends and discrepancies.
- Contribute to special projects, including audits and process improvement initiatives.
- Learn and apply financial reporting standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate financial data.
- Maintain and organize financial records and documentation.
- Develop data via visualization tools such as Power BI.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Junior or Senior standing preferred, all others welcome).
- Strong academic background in core accounting principles and problem-solving.
- Interest in business accounting, Finance, and energy-related industries.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
