ROSE STATE COLLEGE ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN THE LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES DIVISIONPOSITION: Technical Assistant, TheatreDescription of Duties: Responsible for technical elements of the Campus Theater and productions. Oversee technical aspects of theater events and operations. Design, build and assemble sets for theater productions and events. Assist with the operation of the recording and sound systems of the theater. Assist with the operation of the lighting system and instruments of the theater. Perform routine maintenance of the theater building and equipment. Maintain cleanliness and organization of theater shop/storage area. Provide technical support to external groups using Campus theater. Maintain inventory and order materials and supplies for theater. Maintain and follow safety guidelines and practices in all areas of theater production. Train theatre students, part-time hourly and work-study employees on the proper and safe use of tools and equipment. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Serve as an Acting House Manager in their absence. Perform grounds maintenance on theater grounds. Perform other related duties as assigned. Supervise theatre students and a small staff of part-time hourly and work-study employees. Work under general supervision. Receive training and guidelines from designated supervisor.Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree or equivalent. Two years’ experience in technical production, preferably in the area of scenic lighting and properties construction. Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Creative ability to effectively interpret sketches/set plans and build corresponding production pieces/sets. Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs and heavy carrying up to 50 lbs required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Ability to climb ladder and steps. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping and climbing. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate various hand and power tools. Visual acuity sufficient to accurately distinguish lighting gel colors and read gels in mounted fixtures. Auditory ability to adequately record sound.Desired Qualifications: Five years’ experience in technical theater; preferably in the following areas: designing/building sets; designing, rigging and programming lighting; designing/recording sound; and maintaining/operating a theatre and shop.Application Deadline: Until FilledPlease submit application materials as requested.
