- Act as the primary escalation point for the most challenging and complex diagnostic issues on custom automation systems.
- Develop and implement advanced troubleshooting methodologies and diagnostic tools for intricate electrical, mechanical, controls, and software-related problems.
- Lead on-site commissioning, integration, and optimization projects for cutting-edge automation solutions.
- Provide expert-level programming, debugging, and modification of complex PLC, HMI, and robotic systems (e.g., multi-axis motion, vision-guided robotics).
- Conduct comprehensive root cause analyses of persistent machine failures and recommend long-term corrective and preventative actions.
- Serve as a key technical liaison, fostering strong relationships with high-profile clients and providing strategic guidance on system enhancements.
- Collaborate extensively with internal engineering, R&D, and manufacturing teams to provide critical field feedback for product improvement and innovation.
- Train and mentor senior and junior technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Prepare detailed, high-level technical reports and recommendations.
- 7+ years of extensive hands-on experience as a Lead Field Service Technician, Controls Engineer, or equivalent in a custom automation, machine building, or systems integration environment.
- Demonstrated mastery in PLC programming (Rockwell Automation, Siemens), HMI design, and advanced industrial robotics (Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, Universal Robots).
- Proficient in industrial networking, vision systems, motion control, and safety systems.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of resolving highly complex, integrated system issues.
- Strong leadership qualities, with experience mentoring and guiding technical teams.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent extensive experience with relevant certifications may be considered.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel extensively (potentially overnight and nationally) to lead critical assignments.
- Experience with new product development and field validation.
- Certifications in multiple automation platforms or specialized technologies.
- Exposure to data acquisition and industrial IoT systems.
- Prior experience in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
