  • The clinical social worker provides direct mental health and substance abuse services to health center patients and community residents.
  • The social worker also participates in the activities of the department including (but not limited to) assigned administrative responsibilities, urgent and emergency care and outreach.
  • This position is a hybrid position with clinic based and remote home based work.
ABOUT SOUTHERN JAMAICA PLAIN HEALTH CENTERSouthern Jamaica Plain Health Center (SJPHC) is a licensed Health Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital and provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive care including: Adult and Pediatric Primary Care, OB/GYN, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Podiatry, and Behavioral Health. Each year, more than 12,000 patients from Jamaica Plain and surrounding neighborhoods of Boston use these services, producing more than 50,000 visits to SJPHC each year. The health center's services are provided by a bilingual English/Spanish medical and professional staff. SJPHC is Certified as a level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home, which reinforces our long-standing commitment to comprehensive team-based care. SJPHC is a teaching site for Harvard Medical School and multiple professional, university, and high schools.SJPHC is widely known for its extensive programs and offerings related to Racial Justice and Health Equity. These include programs for staff, adults and youth; and training for a large number of local, state and national organizations. SJPHC’s Health Promotion Center, adjacent to the health center offers numerous exercise programs, educational groups, and community programs. Together these programs and services are designed to address the health of the whole person, family, and community, addressing the immediate needs of patients and thinking “upstream” about how to address the social factors and processes – including racism - that impact the health of our patients.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESA. CLINICAL CARE * Provides evaluation and treatment to department clients including psycho-social assessment, treatment planning, short and long-term therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, group therapy and substance abuse counseling for adults and children. Assesses treatment outcome and provides or secures the most effective treatment for the patient’s condition. Coordinates care of assigned clients with center-based providers and others involved with the client’s care.
  • Responds to needs of patients and staffs the Behavioral Health Live Service screenings of new patients, including responding to emergency and urgent care requests and is available to take on new cases as needed.
  • Works with other community agencies, as time permits, to provide consultation, in-service education and assistance in case finding. Provides liaison between health center and other agencies in the area as well as medical providers within the health center.
  • Screens patients and families as needed.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Participates in department and center-wide meetings, contributing to professional growth of others and self, as well as to the needs of the service.
  • Completes all documentation related to client records, statistics, billing, necessary reports and correspondence in a timely manner. Follows procedures related to urgent care, patient flow, new case assignments, termination and other required patient contact.
  • Provides a certain number of visits per year as determined in contract.
  • Follows clinic’s and department’s procedures and protocols.

(LICSW will also be considered for this position)Experience: Previous community mental health experience preferred.Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED * Knowledge of general psychological theory and clinical practice including trauma and mind body approaches and substance abuse/addiction problems.

For employment as Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, at the BWH Department of Social Work:
  • Employment as a Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, is contingent upon passing the LICSW exam. The Clinical Social Worker is required to take the exam within six months of eligibility and will be allowed up twelve months to successfully attain LICSW.
  • Failure to pass the LICSW exam (after a twelve month period) will result in termination of employment.
  • Individuals who fail to attain LICSW may apply for other vacant positions and will be considered for rehire according to the job requirements.
