Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.About Department 457 – Electrical Engineering & Design SupportDepartment 457 provides electrical engineering and design support for all fleet VIRGINIA, OHIO, LOS ANGELES, and SEAWOLF class submarines, including Moored Training Ships and land-based prototypes. We resolve emergent fleet issues, modernize and upgrade systems, provide life cycle support, and deliver technical reviews for electrical systems critical to fleet readiness.Role OverviewD457 Engineers support a wide range of electrical systems and equipment in the following areas: reactor plant instrumentation and control systems, steam and electric plant systems, auxiliary electrical/electronic systems, power distribution equipment and systems, and advanced power electronics. This position supports all fleet submarines, including Los Angeles, Ohio, Seawolf and Virginia classes; training platforms including S6G Moored Training Ships at NPTU Charleston, SC and the S8G Prototype at Kesselring, NY; and Multi Mission Platform (MMP)/Watchtower. Selected candidates will be expected to effectively communicate within the organization as well as with NAVSEA, prime contractors, Navy shipyards and equipment vendors.Key Responsibilities
Initial system and/or component design, ship alteration upgrades, and life cycle support.
Evaluate and provide technical resolution to system and component related questions and problems from Naval Shipyards, Navy forces afloat, land based prototypes, reactor plant prime contractors and NAVSEA engineering and program offices.
Function as a project engineer overseeing all aspects of engineering tasks
Ensure overall technical quality
Work in a team environment, maintaining schedules, awareness of budgets, and interfacing with Design, other engineering organizations and disciplines, technical writers, material buyers and program office representative
This job will provide for an unusually large variety of work of differing durations, and increased responsibilities and independence as ability and experience supports. Newly hired personnel will be assigned a mentor to assist in learning the above roles and responsibilities.QualificationsRequired
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of experience in submarine systems described by this job description.
Ability to obtain a Secret DOD clearance.
Preferred
Experience providing engineering support.
Project Management experience.
US Navy experience.
