Augusta Judicial Circuit – Assistant Public Defender IVThe Augusta Judicial Circuit is seeking to fill an Assistant Public Defender IV position. This office serves Richmond County. The primary duties include managing staff attorneys, administrative staff, and representing indigent clients with criminal case(s) in Superior Court felonies, sometimes Juvenile Court delinquencies. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position. This Assistant Public Defender will be responsible for preparing and presenting cases for trial and entering pleas, conducting legal research, preparing and presenting complex documents, pleading compilation, orders, etc. This position will advise and counsel other attorneys as to the case management practices of handling their assigned cases. An individual holding this position should be prepared to direct subordinate staff engaged in criminal defense, advise and counsel other attorneys as to the case management practices of handling their assigned cases; represent clients in cases including the most serious, legal complex, high-profile and/or significant cases assigned to the office. Other duties may be required and assigned.Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Three years of relevant legal experience OR Three years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 3 (LEP022)
