  • Provides leadership for a class under the direction of the physical education teacher.
  • Assists in carrying out daily lessons as organized and planned by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with class procedures, (i.e. walking the children to and from the classroom, monitoring warm-up procedures, etc.).
  • Assists the teacher with testing and grading procedures.
  • Works with the teacher in reinforcing class discipline rules. Punishment is to be handled by the teacher.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Assists the teacher with developing equipment, playground apparatus, and indoor game activities.
  • Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe playground environment.
  • Assists the teacher with special physical education activities and programs, (i.e. PTA programs, field trips, extravaganzas, play-days, bike rodeos, outdoor education units, and fun runs).
  • Performs any other duties as designated by the principal and/or physical education teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:Must possess a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following qualifications below: * Successful completion of at least 48 semester hours of study at an institution of higher education that was appropriately accredited per the Alabama State Department of Education at the time the courses were taken; OR
  • An Associate's Degree or higher documented on an official transcript from an institution of higher education that was appropriately accredited per the Alabama State Department of Education at the time the degree was earned; OR
  • A passing score of 3 or higher on the state-prescribed WorkKeys Assessments. The tests currently required are Applied Math, Work Place Documents and Business Writing.
