Job Description:OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Software Engineer 1 – Java in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for developing backend services for our fitness and outdoor products.Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains Java-based services using Spring, Junit, REST, and relational databases. Experience with big data and Elasticsearch is a plus.
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders and other Garmin associates in cross functional teams to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion.
  • Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology and offers suggestions to improve processes
  • Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop software in Java, Spring framework, Spring Boot, JDBC, Kafka, Git, and Maven.
  • Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products
