Senior Engineer – Plant Electric Power Distribution System Design performs a range of activities covering; requirements management, systems design, analysis, component and equipment sizing and selection as well as develop plant, system, and component specifications with the associated functional, performance, and environmental qualification plans as well as participation in cross- discipline reviews and work planning. Scope includes; nuclear and turbine island, balance of plant and yard.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :
As the Sr Engineer – Plant Electrical Systems you will:
  • Prepare requirements, design concepts, analysis, and specification documents for a variety of plant electric power distribution systems (EPDS) covering; AC and DC electric systems, components, and equipment
  • Scope includes; main generator plus unit and reserve auxiliary transformers with their interface to distribution and transmission grid, isolation phase bus duct, medium, and low voltage circuit breakers and disconnect switches with their trip units, digital protective relays, switchgear, switchboards, load or power centers, motor control centers, lighting and power service panels, cable and wire, building and containment penetrations, conduit, ducts, raceway, tray, grounding, lightning, and cathodic protection, motors, adjustable speed drives, batteries, chargers, inverters, uninterruptible power supplies, contactors, switches, relays, etc.
  • Develop scopes of work, work plans, schedules, requirements, and design documents covering EPC phases, blocks, and deliverables
  • Ensure design bases is adequately documented and conforms with; applicable nuclear regulations, generic design certifications, licensing commitments, and industry codes and standards
  • Support the integrated plant design across systems and engineering disciplines
  • Ensure systems, components, and equipment designs meet requirements for; functionality, performance, qualification [environmental, seismic, embedded digital], interfaces, human factors, safety hazards, reliability, cyber security, etc.
  • Lead from planning thru commissioning, over Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) project lifecycle
  • Prepare, using applicable processes and tools, documents/specifications, diagrams/drawings, databases, and lists for; requirements, design, description, analysis, sizing and analysis calculations, procurement, etc.
  • Perform detailed oversight, review, and verification of deliverables from; GEH, architect engineering firms, and suppliers to ensure their; adequacy, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements; design basis, practices, tool use, configuration and documentation management, etc.
  • Perform optioneering or trade-off studies for technical, risk, and cost optimization
  • Promote incorporation of operational experience, lessons learned, and best practices
  • Identify, confirm, document, and lead resolution of technical issues
  • Use requirements management processes and techniques throughout source, plant, system, and component hierarchy [e.g.; authored or loaded, attributed, parsed, allocated, and linked with traceability metrics]Use variety of systems and tools for; requirements, design, change, configuration, and document management
  • Ensure deliverables are; on-spec., on-budget, and on-schedule
  • Mentor less experienced engineers to develop next generation staff
  • Support inquiry-to-order and bid proposal activities
  • Support Simplification, Fast Works, design for six sigma, design for reliability, failure mode and effects analysis, continuous process improvement, productivity, cost-out, etc.
  • Champion nuclear safety culture – Ensure compliance with GEH policies, quality management system, and corrective action program
  • Deliver work with integrity, safety and security, quality, and then on-time output
  • Work on BWRX-300 technologies.
Qualifications/Requirements :
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics or equivalent 4 year technical degree
  • Minimum 10 years design, development, and deployment of electric power distribution systems for complex, high reliability, and in harsh environment facilities in the thermal or nuclear power, process, marine industries, etc.
  • Minimum 7 years application engineering or field installation with heavy electrical equipment and components thereof including selection, sizing and analysis calculations, modeling and simulation, and qualification [environmental, seismic, embedded digital] to diverse industry standards (e.g.; IEEE, IEC, ASME)
  • Minimum 7 years excellent knowledge, skill, and experience with PC and desktop engineering productivity software [e.g.; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio] and computer aided design, modelling and analysis as well as project collaboration tools
Desired Characteristics :
  • Master of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics or equivalent 4 year technical degree PE License PMI/PMP certified or proven project management experience.
  • 15 years design, development, and deployment of electrical systems for complex, high reliability, and harsh environment of nuclear power plants or similar industrial facilities electrical systems, equipment, and components thereof as well as field applications of variety of plant AC and DC electrical systems, components, and equipment such as; main generator plus unit and reserve auxiliary transformers including their interface to distribution and transmission grid, isolation phase bus duct, main generator plus high, medium, and low voltage circuit breakers and disconnect switches with their trip units, digital protective relays, switchgear, switchboards, isolation power centers, motor control centers, lighting and service panels, cable and wire, building and containment penetrations, conduit, ducts, raceway, tray, grounding, lightning, and cathodic protection, motors, adjustable speed drives, batteries, chargers, inverters, uninterruptible power supplies, contactors, switches, relays, etc.
  • 10 years hands-on with qualification [environmental, seismic, embedded digital] testing to diverse industry standards [e.g.; IEEE, IEC, ASME]
  • 10 years with regulatory affairs and licensing processes in general and specifically; 10 CFR 52, 10 CFR 50 General Design Criteria, Regulatory Guides, Branch Technical Position, NUREG, etc.
  • 10 years with IEEE Std 80, 81, 115, 242, 308, 317, 323, 338, 344, 379, 384, 450, 484, 485, 603, 665, 666, 741, 765, 1050, C37.06, C50.10, C50.13, C57.13, C62.23 and NFPA 7807 years with IEC Std 62855, Nuclear power plants – Electrical power systems – Electrical power systems analysis and supporting IEC 60034 thru 62305 series
  • 7 years using Visio to prepare electrical one line or single line, inter-connection wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • 7 years practical hands-on experience as power electrical plant or field and installation engineer
  • 3 years with requirements management including related tool
  • Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, results oriented – Able to learn quickly and make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions
  • Strong communication, cross- discipline and functional facilitation, and influencing skills, both verbal and written with focus on requirements, design basis document and technical presentation preparation and delivery
