
STEM Program Facilitator - Girl Scouts

- Develop relationships with schools and other youth-serving organizations on behalf of Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana (GSNI-M).
- Schedule and maintain a calendar of after-school STEM programming, serving girls in counties throughout our council’s jurisdiction.
- Connect and support teachers for the Empower Educators program.
- Use our engaging curriculum to lead girls through exciting activities that cover all things STEM.
- Ensure that programs are created and delivered in a high-quality, cost-effective manner that meets council and Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. health and safety standards, as well as adhering to the Girl Scout program.
- Research and engage outside collaborators and partners for mobile STEM programming.
- Incorporate Girl Scout principles into each program with girls: Allow programs to have elements of girl-led, hands-on, cooperative learning – while providing guidance and supervision as needed.
- Model teamwork and problem solving while creating opportunities for girls to apply strategies themselves.
- Work seamlessly with the Girl Experience team, Outreach team, and other GSNI-M staff.
- Collect appropriate paperwork such as membership registration forms, program attendance, certificates of insurance, etc.
- Communicate positively with parents and other community members about Girl Scouts.
- Travel throughout the council’s jurisdiction to deliver programs.
- Keep abreast of trends and issues in the community affecting girls, volunteers, and council STEM services.
- Keep current on GSUSA’s policies, priorities, changes, and requirements related to the Girl Scout STEM program.
- Work to ensure all goals for programs are met, including goals related to budget and quality program experiences.
- 1-2 year's experience working in small and large group settings with children.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, sufficient technical ability to easily work in multiple digital environments such as online training platforms and membership databases.
- Ability to project a high level of professionalism while networking in the public arena.
- Ability to speak passionately and with conviction about the organizational STEM program and its importance.
- A commitment to diversity and the ability to interact with diverse populations.
- Ability to handle sensitive information.
- Ability to manage conflict resolution.
- Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering education related field, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledgeable about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Journeys and Badges
- Familiarity with STEM and other related educational concepts
- Networking and relationship building skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Understanding of program evaluation techniques and outcome measurements
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds).
- Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.
- Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.
- Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel regularly to lead programs for girls across our council’s jurisdiction.
- Travel may expose employee to inclement weather conditions.
- Insurable under the Council’s policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance.
- Dependable transportation is a must.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with girls, staff, and volunteers.
- A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout Mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the Mission and Vision to external and internal stakeholders.
