We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer who can bring technical leadership, project delivery excellence, and mentorship to our expanding team.Position SummaryThe Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading mechanical design efforts across multiple complex projects, ensuring compliance with GMP and regulatory standards. This role will involve project management support, client engagement, mentorship of junior engineers/designers, and hands-on technical design. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be instrumental in shaping Novel’s reputation as a trusted partner in the life-science industry.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical/HVAC system design for pharmaceutical, biotech, and life-science facilities, including: - Cleanrooms (ISO 5–8 classifications) - GMP warehouses and production areas - BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratories - Utilities (chilled water, steam, compressed air, purified water, WFI, etc.)
  • Prepare and oversee technical deliverables (design calculations, system narratives, drawings, specifications).
  • Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, process engineers, and construction partners to ensure fully coordinated designs.
  • Provide technical leadership through all project phases: concept, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
  • Ensure designs meet cGMP, FDA, DEA, NFPA, ASHRAE, and other applicable standards.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, support commissioning, and resolve field issues.
  • Lead client meetings and present technical solutions clearly and professionally.
  • Mentor and develop junior mechanical engineers and designers, fostering technical growth and quality standards within the team.
  • Support business development by providing input on proposals, project scopes, schedules, and fee estimates.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10–15 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in life-sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotech facility design.
  • Proven experience leading mechanical/HVAC design for cleanrooms, GMP environments, and specialized utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of cGMP regulations, FDA/EMA requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent coordination skills across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading design teams.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools.
