Zoox is looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead one of our High Performance Computing infrastructure service teams. Zoox HPC services combine industry-best scheduling and workload orchestration technologies, such as and SLURM, with value-add workflows specifically for Autonomous Vehicle development. These HPC services form the backbone of development workflows across all Zoox software divisions, from data engineering to computer vision perception to simulation and more. You will take on a breadth of end-to-end responsibilities including distributed system design, algorithmic job scheduling, and adaptive cloud scaling in support of all of Zoox's computational needs.The position comes with a high degree of independence and the opportunity to help define Zoox's scaling strategy, both technically and organizationally. You will be responsible for hiring for and maintaining the health of your team, as well as growing and coaching teammates to support the continued success of their careers.In this role, you will:
  • Design and implement improvements to Zoox's in-house, cutting-edge HPC infrastructure
  • Investigate new distributed system paradigms and technologies to meet Zoox's ever-growing computational and storage needs
  • Create production-grade web service APIs, SDKs, and other tools to provide a world-class developer experience for all of Zoox's software teams
  • Mentor, coach, and advocate for your direct reports
  • Expand the team by participating in all stages of the hiring process
  • Plan work streams and coordinate projects with customer teams
  • Align goals and progress with Zoox milestones
Qualifications:
  • Experience managing teams of 5-10+
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize development work and build cross-functional consensus
  • Experience with distributed systems deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience with workload management / job scheduling systems such as SLURM or Ray.io
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related field)

  • Experience with Kubernetes at scale (
10k+ nodes) * Proficiency with Python, Java, or other managed languagesCompensationThere are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $240,000 to $300,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
