  • Operate heavy equipment vehicles with capacities greater than 20 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport Asphalt materials.
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order and inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure; using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers. Remove debris from loaded trailers.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting loaded Trucks and Trailers.
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the Truck or Trailer.
  • Maintain records of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status.
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Check all load and scale tickets for accuracy. Maintain accurate data, obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and provide documentation at end of each shift.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs and necessary emergency roadside repairs.
  • Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes.
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Operate equipment, such as CB radios, phones, or GPS equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Install or remove special equipment, such as tire chains, grader blades, plow blades, or sanders.
  • Operate trucks equipped with snowplows or sander attachments to maintain roads in Winter.
  • Additional tasks as assigned, act as a point of contact as applicable.
Requirements
  • Possess a valid driver's license; in accordance with Company Policy.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in commercial heavy equipment operation, required.
  • Knowledge of all applicable DOT Regulations and FMCSA Regulations.
  • Meet all standards (medical, safety, etc.) required by the DOT; pass required drug/alcohol screening.
  • Ability to operate Automatic and Manual transmission vehicles.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures and practices.
  • Capable of lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Attention to detail, maintain accurate records.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting in a trailer cab for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to traverse worksite in different types of weather and bend, climb, stretch, reach, and lean to make inspections.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 40 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to travel frequently.
