Job Category: FacilitiesJob Description:To develop, coordinate, and conduct the custodial training program.Responsibilities:EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Develop and/or modify lesson plans which ensure adequate coverage of custodial training including, but not limited to instruction in basic sanitation, housekeeping, stripping, waxing, buffing, minor maintenance, building security, and basic operation of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Facilitate the assistance of experts in various maintenance and operations functions where resource personnel are available and where their expertise is applicable to the program. Set up custodial training workshops for current and new employees and arrange for appropriate training facilities.
  • May complete onsite training at schools which may vary across geographic areas. Complete follow-up visits with trainees to ensure that custodial housekeeping practices are up to standards.
  • Monitor presentations of resource personnel and make recommendations to ensure materials and information provided are appropriate and effective for trainees. Maintain inventory of supplies and training materials.
  • Perform minor maintenance on custodial equipment. Train employees how to operate and make minor repairs of all custodial equipment such as vacuums, wet vacuums, scrubbers, walk behind scrubber, ride on scrubber, carpet extractor and high-speed burnishing.
  • Set up and operate video playback equipment used in training programs. Keep time and attendance records on trainee to ensure that assigned schools and custodial area supervisors are kept informed as to trainees' attendance and/or performance. Evaluate trainee at the completion of a course. Request follow up evaluation after six weeks of on-the-job performance.
  • Assist trainees to resolve transportation and/or related problems, as needed. Keep training records and, with the aid of clerical assistance, prepare a variety of support documents such as timecards, name tags, time sheets and certificates of completion.
  • Assist Facilities Operations supervisory staff on special assignments and projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training, and Experience:
  • Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible building services experience, three of which must have been equivalent to that of a Building Operations Supervisor.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of a stationary engineer's license, issued by the Maryland State Board of Stationary Engineers is preferred.
  • Maryland Class C Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires the ability to keep records and organize training material.
  • General knowledge of air conditioning and boiler plant operation.
  • Ability to present and interpret a wide variety of policies, procedures, and technical data pertinent to building operations and maintenance.
  • Requires excellent communication and human relations skills that allow for regular contact with school principals and Operations' supervisory staff to furnish information relating to the availability and evaluation of trainees.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • The work of this class entails the performance of heavy physical labor including frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight. Position requires the use and handling of tools and equipment. Duties require travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.
