Staff Systems Engineer
- South Portland, ME
- Permanent
- Full-time
- Drive solutions to discipline/product boundary challenges and define solutions in electrical/mechanical/firmware domains, such as: system I/O, PCBA familiarity and hands-on experience (design ideal), firmware state diagram definition, and industry compliance (UL 1547, 1741, 9540)
- Own systems diagrams and various state machines at a multi-discipline level (electrical/mechanical/firmware/software) to create cohesive ecosystem in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Organize (and challenge) requirements from compliance, product owners, executives, and engineering teams and drive full ecosystem definition. Approach design with a first-principles mindset.
- Adapt Product Requirements into clear Engineering Design Requirements and ensure product is held to excellent standards. Collaborate across teams to identify product gaps.
- Design and architect complex features with firmware, hardware, product, compliance teams. Tools for design can vary from Python for data analysis and mathematical modeling, PLECS or LTSpice for circuit-level as needed.
- Drive definition of DVP&R with system test teams. Brainstorm automation in feature validation and regression testing.
- Drive DFMEA and deliver risks and solutions bearing cost-analyses.
- Operates as the engineering product leader that understands the ‘big picture’ and drives answers to open-ended questions for the team.
- Share information quickly and know all the stakeholders on a program. Communicate effectively and articulate problems/solutions with precision.
- Bias for action and completing work. Leads effective meetings and drives decision making. Comfortable challenging engineering decisions cross-functionally.
- BS or MS in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering
- 5+ years of system design or integration experience on high volume products and 5+ years in an architect or technical product owner role.
- Product architect experience in electrical or firmware engineering.
- Experience in PCB engineering such as fabrication and assembly technologies, thermal management, board bring-up, testing and validation at board and/or system level.
- Hands-on experience and comfortable working safely in HV lab areas.
- Comfortable with EE modeling tools such as LTSpice, MATLAB, PLECs.
- Reasonable coding skills on Python. Comfortable understanding C.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication.
- Knowledge of UL/IEEE/NFPA/ANSI standards stemming from NFPA 70 and related to ESS.
