Penn-Mar Castings LLC is seeking a skilled Foundry Engineer to support our iron foundry operations. This role focuses on tooling design, process improvement, and engineering support to ensure the production of high-quality castings. You’ll collaborate with engineers, quality, pattern shop, and production teams to solve problems, improve processes, and drive continuous improvement.Key Responsibilities
  • Design and improve tooling, gating/risering layouts, and processes to meet customer and production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve casting defects in collaboration with quality and production teams.
  • Use problem-solving tools (5 Why, Fishbone, A3, 8D, Kata) to analyze and improve processes.
  • Develop and maintain routings, bills of material, and standard work for Foundry Operations.
  • Support new job start-ups and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and productivity.
  • Assist in resolving customer issues related to dimensions, machining, and tooling.
  • Stay current on new technologies to strengthen competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Promote safety, productivity, and quality through process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Will consider Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related fields with additional experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in casting or tooling engineering within an iron foundry.
  • Skills & Attributes:
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation software (SolidWorks, Magma preferred).
  • Strong understanding of gating/risering principles and foundry processes.
  • Advanced blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible, ethical, and committed to continuous improvement.
Work Environment
  • 50% office / 50% foundry floor.
  • Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 25 lbs., and occasional climbing or crawling.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, and airborne particles; PPE provided and required.
