Job DescriptionThe primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires experience with hard sticks and pediatric and geriatric patients, working in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.Responsibilities
- Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately.
- Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
- Decontaminate and update patient information as needed.
- Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.
- Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
- Follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification.
- Experience with hard sticks and working with pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Strong customer service skills.
