Description of Work UnitThe Department of Psychology is in CSU's College of Natural Sciences along with seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Psychology Department serves approximately 1000 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students, with approximately 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department also houses the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research, a University-designated program of research and scholarly excellence that concentrates on social problems that affect rural areas; and the Colorado Injury Control Research Center which is dedicated to reducing the occurrence and severity of injuries in rural areas of the Rocky Mountain region, particularly among underserved populations.The Department is primarily housed in the Behavioral Sciences Building, a building that was completed in 2010 and was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification standards for environmental quality, innovative design, sustainability, and efficiency. The Behavioral Sciences Building includes office space for all full-time faculty and graduate students, meeting and seminar rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, numerous lounge and study areas, and a café. The entire campus is wi-fi enabled, including all areas surrounding the buildings. Also included are faculty research laboratories in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and sensation and perception that have been designed to specification. An adjacent building includes additional research space, computer facilities, an imaging center housing EEG, TMS and NIRS imaging labs, and undergraduate instructional laboratories. Faculty and students also have access to a 3T SiemensSkyra MRI system located at the Translational Medicine Institute. In total, the Department controls over 100,000 square feet of research, teaching, and office space. In addition, the Translational Medicine Institute at CSU houses a multi-use 3T MRI facility.

Position SummaryThe Department of Psychology at Colorado State University invites applications for two full-time, continuing, non-tenure track, teaching-focused faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with an appointment date of August 16, 2026. Each position will have a 3/3 course load with a 10% service expectation.We welcome applicants with expertise in any area of psychology or closely related fields but will give preference to those with expertise related to clinical or counseling psychology for one of the two available positions. Required Job Qualifications
- Applicants must have a Ph.D., or anticipate receiving their Ph.D., by August 15, 2026, in Psychology or a closely related discipline.
- All successful applicants will have existing teaching expertise at the undergraduate level in courses in psychological sciences.
- The ideal applicant will be a high caliber instructor who excels in the classroom as the instructor of record, effectively supporting all learners, and who can document the consistent effectiveness of their teaching and an ongoing commitment to instructional excellence. Such a record will also demonstrate a dedication to teaching and advancing the practice of teaching. Examples of prior successes might include leadership of course design and/or course development; facilitating instructional developments and pedagogical advancements; teaching-related publications in peer reviewed journals or teaching-related presentations at major conferences; curriculum design and innovations; training and mentoring of other instructors and potential future instructors; and/or development and implementation of teaching technologies. We are seeking individuals with a track record of advancing teaching standards and practices and the ability to promote better teaching within the department and across the wider university. An ideal applicant will provide evidence that they have consistently engaged in professional development in teaching.
- Successful candidates for both positions will demonstrate experience and background suitable for highly effective teaching of a variety of relevant undergraduate classes, including Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, Research Methods, History and Systems, Social Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and other courses within the curriculum. For the position focused on clinical/counseling psychology, in addition to the aforementioned courses, preference will be given to candidates with experience and background suitable to teach undergraduate courses such as Psychopathology, Basic Counseling Skills, and Child Psychopathology. Preference for this clinical/counseling position will also be given to candidates with the training and expertise to supervise students in our graduate Clinical/Counseling program, including those who are licensed, license-eligible or will be licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the state of Colorado.
