Substitute Security Officer

- Work closely with the School Administration to implement regular building checks, routine security procedures, and handle security problems that may occur
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Superintendent or the Board of Education
- Develop and maintains a positive and welcoming climate in the building reception area
- Assists visitors with directions and secures proper identification
- Refer tardy students to the attendance clerk
- Greets everyone entering the building and directs them to the appropriate location according to building procedures
- Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering the school
- Report any unauthorized visitors, to the Administration. Notify the building administration, or appropriate personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations
- Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs.
- Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally
- Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
- Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines
- As requested, patrols and monitors hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the facility
- As requested, assists with supervision of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no serious violations
- Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
- Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
- Ability to work effectively with others
