Our internship is designed to give you a realistic preview of the work you’ll perform in public accounting and set you up for success. You’ll benefit from individualized attention from managers and shareholders while you contribute to our collaborative environment that encourages all employees to learn from each other.ResponsibilitiesAn Intern at Perkins will perform a variety of tax or A&A work. In the tax department they may prepare federal and state tax returns for businesses and individuals, assist with income tax planning, research technical tax issues and assist with other business consulting projects.In the audit department they may prepare workpapers for a variety of financial statement engagements, provide analysis of account balances and documents findings and assist with other A&A projects. They work with clients in gaining an understanding of their business and they apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) in the preparation of workpapers. Interns will also perform research on technical accounting issues.An Intern utilizes a variety of accounting software programs and will develop some proficiency in the use of those programs. They will begin to develop working knowledge of internal workflow and procedures, as well as organize and coordinate their schedules with a variety of supervisors. They are responsible for understanding the rules governing Certified Public Accountants including the AICPA Professional Code of Ethics and complying with the company’s code of ethics, independence rules and quality control procedures.Qualifications
- Must be working to obtain a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Accounting or related field and obtaining 150 semester/225 quarter college credits to be eligible for the CPA Exam; anticipated graduation and CPA eligibility between December 2026 and August 2027 (flexibility to December 2027 for those targeting tax positions)
- Working knowledge of basic office technology and software (MS Office Suite)
- Must have high integrity and trustworthiness
- Ability to learn accounting specific software and research tools
- Must be goal oriented and have a desire to learn
- Possess strong aptitude for analytical, technical, and problem-solving work
- Professional communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
