- Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Under the teacher's direction, administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress.
- Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
- Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
- Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
- Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children.
- Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding, toileting, proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use specific equipment related to their disability (e.g., materials, assistive technology, visual aids).
- Track and dispense authorized student medications.
- Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students.
- Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being.
- Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
- Comply with District Policies.
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
- May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs.
- Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
- Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.
- Desire and aptitude to work with students.
- Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
- Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
- Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
- Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required.
- Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
- Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.
- Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Meet one of the following requirements:
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or
- Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council, or
- Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:
- ETS ParaPro Assessment.
- Pearson's Paraprofessional Assessment.
- The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
- Depending on assignment, may be required to complete behavior modification programs, including safe physical restraining techniques and/or other training as required.
