Scheduled Shift: Monday-Friday 0800-1700 and other shifts as needed.Location: WoodwardJOB SUMMARY:The Manager of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for leading and overseeing the HIM teams, which manage both patient and legal requests for medical record release (ROI) and the offsite storage of records (Records Management). This role ensures these processes operate efficiently and in compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include maintaining quality assurance, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and collaborating with Compliance, Legal, and Risk Services to improve workflows and ensure proper handling of medical records. Oversees the implementation of client electronic medical record (EMR) interfaces and TriCore Direct+, provides staff training, and ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and security of all medical records-both paper and electronic. Ensuring accurate and timely release of information in compliance with privacy regulations is a critical aspect of this role.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Staff Management: a. Oversee the hiring, training, and evaluation of HIM staff to ensure high performance and compliance with organizational standards. b. Assign tasks, delegate responsibilities effectively, and address performance issues through coaching and feedback. c. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that supports professional development and teamwork.2. Quality Assurance: a. Implement and monitor quality standards to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of patient health records. b. Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify data quality issues and resolve them proactively. c. Ensure continuous improvement in data quality through monitoring and feedback mechanisms.3. Regulatory Compliance: a. Stay up to date with relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, ICD-10, and data privacy laws, ensuring compliance within the HIM department. b. Manage compliance with data privacy and security protocols to protect patient information. c. Oversee reporting requirements to regulatory agencies and ensure timely and accurate submissions.4. Data Analysis and Reporting: a. Analyze patient data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for operational improvements. b. Generate reports for healthcare providers and administrators to support data-driven decision-making. c. Utilize data analysis to enhance patient care quality and operational efficiency.5. System Administration: a. Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and related technologies. b. Manage system upgrades, data migrations, and ensure systems meet operational and regulatory needs. c. Provide user training and support for HIM staff to ensure effective use of systems and technologies.6. Budget Management: a. Develop, monitor, and manage the HIM department's budget, ensuring financial resources are utilized efficiently. b. Identify cost-saving measures and optimize resource allocation to improve departmental performance.7. Training and Development: a. Provide ongoing training to staff on coding guidelines, regulatory changes, and new system functionalities to ensure compliance and proficiency. b. Identify staff development needs and create tailored training plans to foster growth and enhance team effectiveness.8. Communication and Collaboration: a. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, leadership, and other departments regarding patient records, data needs, and process improvements. b. Collaborate with clinical teams and other departments to improve data quality, patient care, and operational workflows.MINIMUM EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field of study.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of six (6) years in health information management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Extensive knowledge of health information management practices to include data privacy, and regulatory requirements. medical records filing, retrieval, correspondence and release of information.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • RHIT Certification
PREFERENCES:
  • Experience with Laboratory and/or Hospital Information Systems.
