  • Provide technical leadership, direction, guidance and engineering expertise to colleagues and other cross-functional teams.
  • Provide independent recommendations for material selection and manufacturing processes.
  • Research new material systems and manufacturing technologies.
  • Perform general material and metallurgical analysis including cutting, mounting, polishing, and evaluating microstructure.
  • Independently track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and the Milwaukee process.
  • Schedule, develop agendas for, facilitate and document technical meetings and formal presentations.
  • Occasionally provide support to production facilities for engineering builds, product launches, mass production, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Occasionally travel to suppliers, development partners, production facilities, and conferences.
  • Establish metallurgical analysis techniques and procedures to evaluate and optimize products and processes.
  • Draw concise, logical, written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis.
  • Ability to present experimental data, analysis, conclusions and recommendations in a group setting to a variety of company levels and educational disciplines.
  • Effectively identify and communicate issues to upper management in a clear, concise and timely manner while driving action based on urgency.
  • Provide expertise and engineering support on high-level complexity projects.
  • Identify engineering trends and drive strategies to guide the organization’s technical direction.
  • Occasionally operate pilot facility equipment including heat treat furnaces, stamping presses, welding equipment, lasers, etc.
  • Create new development tests to aid in design verification and failure modes.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis of test failures.
  • Self-motivation to lead material/process investigations to solve and/or prevent quality issues.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in their design and failure analysis.
Education and Experience RequirementsRequired
  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science at a minimum. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in related Materials field.
  • Experience with various materials and their applications-emphasis on metals and metallurgy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on attitude.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Power Point.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time is required.
  • Good understanding of metal stamping, steel machining, and injection molded processes. Knowledge of coating technologies.
  • Experience with advanced analysis techniques such as SEM and EDS.
  • Proficient in use of DOE.
  • Experience researching and evaluating materials for additive manufacturing.
  • Proficient in CAD and FEA solvers is preferred.
