
Payroll Manager

- Must understand and maintain confidentiality of all payroll information at all levels within payroll division
- Strong understanding of payroll principles with strong proficiency in payroll systems and software
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Effectively communicates payroll’s strategic importance and ensures alignment with organizational goals and consistently reinforcing the broader company vision
- Fosters a productive and enthusiastic payroll team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Keeps current with industry regulations and best practices
- Provides effective leadership and oversight of the payroll team
- Reviews weekly and bi-weekly payroll, and ensures accuracy and compliance
- Ensures compliance with federal, multi-state, and multi-local payroll regulations, including prevailing wage laws
- Continually assesses the effectiveness of payroll across geographic and hierarchical levels of the organization; improves service, functionality, and cost effectiveness of payroll
- Leads, coaches, and develops payroll team by setting clear goals and conducting regular performance reviews
- Manages payroll tax filings and ensures timely payments
- Collaborates with HR and Accounting to streamline payroll processes
- Handles payroll audits and resolves discrepancies
- Manages employee records related to payroll, benefits, and deductions
- Manages preparation of certified payroll reports, as required for government contracts
- Delegates appropriately and follows up effectively
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
- Must be able to work scheduled hours as well as overtime, as required, on short notice
- Must be able to remain calm in times of heightened emotional situations
- Must work well with others as a member of a team to complete tasks
- Must be able to wear personnel protective equipment (i.e., hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high visibility vest, safety harness, etc.) when required
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
- Possess good vision/hearing (normal or corrected)
- Ability to work while sitting or standing for long periods
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
- Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent, preferred
- Eight or more years payroll management experience, preferably in the construction industry
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation required, or must be obtained within first year of employment
- Experience in certified payroll reporting and multi-state payroll tax, preferred
- Experience in Federal, state, and local payroll tax including filing requirements, preferred
